Steam Story:
I learned about vaginal steaming from my Grand aunt. She told me that women, including herself, in Liberia, West Africa, would sit over hot water and herbs during their postpartum recovery process. I was very fascinated and wanted to know more so I could practice steaming myself. I started calling all the older women in the family, including my mother, to get their steam stories. They all mentioned steaming for postpartum, however non of them knew the western names for the herbs that was used during their steam sessions. So for more information, I started researching to make sure that steaming was safe for regular usage other than postpartum care. After that, I started reading about the different types of herbs typically used for steaming. Once I found what I needed, I began steaming for monthly maintaining as well as period care. I started by purchasing herbs online and the necessary tools to begin a steam session. Eventually, I became really curious about how to initiate steam sessions for others and how to formula steam herbs per session. I then started researching again and came across Steamy Chick. Thus, began my journey of becoming a certified Peristeam Facilitator and a future Peristeam Hydrotherapist! All in all, steaming as helped tremendously from alleviating period cramps to lengthening my cycle from 24 days to 27 days (still working on getting it to the normal range). I believe that steaming has the ability to benefit everyone if given the opportunity. I want to educate others about Peristeaming so they can also experience the benefits that this noninvasive practice has to offer.
