1. If you do not have a steam sauna or chair, put your steam pot on the floor (preferably on top of a plush carpet, rug or blanket).
2. Wrap a towel around the pot, so that the insides of the pot will not touch your skin.
3. Place your feet on either side of the pot. Carefully lower your knees to either side of the pot. You can steam in this position or modify it by resting your arms and head in salutation position on the floor.
Modify a chair by creating a hole or opening in the center of the seat. Place your steam pot beneath it.
The use of a sitz bath or plastic bowl for vaginal steaming is discouraged because heat causes toxins to be released from plastic materials. A stable material such as stainless steel, ceramic, clay, or heat-resistant glass would preferred.
