LaQuenta Weldon of Columbia, South Carolina was introduced to vaginal steaming as a “fun” thing to do while visiting Atlanta with her friends. She never imagined that the experience would lead to her opening her own vaginal steam spa. We interview LaQuenta to learn about why she decided to open up her very own steam spa.
What is your profession?
Currently, I work as a research analyst full-time and run Her Sacred Place part-time.
Where did you go to school or get your professional training?
I have an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and a Master’s of Public Health in Epidemiology both from the University of South Carolina. I received my Vaginal Steaming Facilitator Certification from Steamy Chick Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute and currently enrolled in their Peristeam Hydrotherapist program.
How long have you been practicing?
Her Sacred Place officially opened its doors in December 2018.
Do you use vaginal steaming yourself?
Of course. I try to steam at least once a week; however, timing constraints do not allow it all the time.
What has your personal experience with steaming been? Why did you decide to offer this service to women?
Prior to consistently steaming, I was prone to Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) often. When taking medication (antibiotics) to combat BV, I would get a yeast infection. After steaming weekly for three weeks, I released a small “glob of a mucous filled, tissue like substance.” Ever since then, I did not have any issues with chronic BV anymore.
How long have you been offering vaginal steam services?
I have been offering vaginal steaming services for a year now.
Where do you offer your services?
Her Sacred Place Vaginal Steaming Spa located in Columbia, SC.
Any favorite quotes from clients either during or after steaming?
Here’s what one client wrote afterwards – “I feel awesome, the bloating feeling is gone, I felt the gas moving as I was driving home. At first it scared me, thought I needed to go to E.R., but no…lol. Normally when I get home I sit down, fall asleep in my chair and transition to bed. Not that night I made dinner, washed the dishes and enjoyed spending time with my daughter planning my birthday party. I tried to go to bed but I had too much energy so I started cleaning. The next morning I woke up @ 4:45 am, put one load in the washer, took my shower, took my linen off the bed ran down stairs to log into work all of this before 6:30 am. By about 8 am I had made 5 trips up and down the stairs and washed 4 loads with no hesitation. In total I went up and down the stairs more yesterday than do all week sometimes. Day 2 and I feel lighter, my appetite has decreased, and the energy is still there. I am grateful that I took the leap and tried a new thing despite my insecurities due to the unknown. Can hardly wait to see the next results. Oh and can I add, I’m down 2 lbs of water weight. Feeling renewed.”
