There are first hand accounts of vaginal steaming in Guanajuato and Michoacan for postpartum care. It is also used for healing disease among men and women. Though more popular among indigenous populations steaming is still a practice many people are aware of, although some have never heard of it.
@bloodmoonhealing contributes: “a form of “dry steaming” is also done in Mexico. We call it simply a “calientamento” or “heating” and it’s considered an ancient remedy. But because it’s done with actual fire it’s only recommended when you have more severe issues compared to the wet steaming which can be done more frequently. Mixteca people of the Puebla & Oaxaca region and Nahua people of the Mexico city region do it. Not sure about other indigenous nations in Mexico.
