Description
Historically, perineum steam seats and birthing stools were one and the same across Europe for hundreds of years. We’ve adopted this model for this particular stool and offer it as a steam seat for those looking to steam, a birthing stool for those birthing at home or working with clients, or both for those users that are looking for long-term support pre-conception, during the birthing experience, and throughout the menstruating and menopausal years.
We offer four different types of wood, and variations within those species, all indigenous to Eastern Canada – ash, cherry, maple, and walnut. Our stools are built to order and can be made with legs that are attached, or ones that are removable. Finger grooves are on the underside to support gripping during the emergence stage of labour. The seat serves a dual purpose of allowing birthers to steam during labour to support their journey.
Dimensions are 19.5” in width, 13.5” in depth (front to back), and can be made with legs that will result in 2 sizes: 10” or 12” from floor to top of the seat. There is also an option to order both sets of legs (removable leg stools only). Ideal for those working with clients or sharing in the home.
We strive to ensure that all aspects, from tree roots to finished seats, uphold eco-conscious awareness. Our seats are finished with a 3-layered oil + wax finish using Odie’s products. These are all food-safe, non-toxic, natural blends made in the USA. This ensures our health as makers, and a long-term, sustainable re-application process for future care by seat users. We are professional furniture makers crafting with hands, hearts and great attention to the details. You can feel the high-quality of our seats at first touch. Our products are heirloom quality and will last beyond this lifetime, continuing to nurture, support and guide with reverence for future generations to come.
While 95% of commercial lumber is dried in kilns designed to speed up the process using chemicals, along with dyes that are added to create uniform colours, we ensure our lumber comes from single-cut trees that are professionally air-dried by people we know. As such, the wood we use is free of chemicals, dyes and filled with unique natural grains and markings. We go to great lengths to bring these unique colours and grain patterns into our seats.
We hand-craft all aspects of our seats: from the tree that’s cut by people we know directly; to the natural air-drying process; to the milling process, careful wood selection and pattern matching; to the hand-turning of the legs on our lathe; to the hand sanding and applied oils and waxes. We do it all and take heartfelt pride in the unparalleled quality we offer.
