Description

Designed by a midwife and woodworker married couple duo 30+ years ago, the “Iota” birthing stool has seen thousands of births across Canada, the US and Europe. With blessings, we’ve been handed the torch to carry it forward.

Our heirloom-quality, hand-crafted stools have taken the original template of the Iota stool and integrated some modifications to make it our own. Recognizing that historically steam seats and birthing stools were one and the same and passed down from generation to generation, we’ve crafted ours with this purpose in mind. Consider the ancestral wisdom shared through the stool, from woman to woman down through the generations! This was how womb wisdom survived through the ages and continues to today.

We offer 4 Canadian hardwood types – walnut, maple, cherry or ash – and finish each stool with the beauty and high quality of Odie’s non-toxic finishing products to nurture naturally and bring out the radiance of these heartfelt species.

Stools are built to order and can be made with legs that are attached, or ones that are removable. Finger grooves are on the underside to support gripping when used while birthing.

Dimensions are 19.5” in width, 13.5” in depth (front to back), and can be made with legs that will result in 2 sizes: 10” or 12” from floor to top of the seat. There is also an option to order both sets of legs (removable leg stools only).

We maintain a conscious awareness of our connection to all of life, and ensure sustainable forestry practices are followed. Our studio buzzes with eco-conscious approaches from completely non-toxic professional finishes, recyclable packaging for shipping, zero wood waste, and heartfelt intention in our approach.

We hand-craft all aspects of our seats: from the wood that’s cut by people we know directly who follow sustainable forestry practices; to the natural air-drying process that ensures no dies or chemicals are used (as is the case with 95% of commercial lumber); to the milling process we do ourselves in-house; to careful wood selection and pattern matching; to the hand-turning of the legs on our lathe; to the hand sanding and applied oils and waxes. We do it all and take heartfelt pride in the quality we offer.

Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy, and appreciate the same. We're here to support pelvic health. Let's continue to lift each other up. If you want to use our image or design aesthetic or wording, reach out and let us know.

Terms and Conditions

Wood is unique and no two seats are alike. Our seats are crafted with high attention to detail, using only non-toxic prep and finishes. We only use wood with character markings that won't require artificial filler. For this reason, there may be very tiny voids in discreet places that we leave there intentionally. It will never affect the seat top, nor quality or longevity of the seat.

Wood also moves! Even once it's been glued up or assembled. We use mature trees that are quarter cut to minimize movement, and have preference for single boards for the seat in order to grain-match if glued.

There will be unique markings specific to the type of wood and growing conditions. This is why we choose indigenous wood to our region (Northeastern Canada). Always, we ensure a high aesthetic and quality. We've got you covered!

Shipping Policy

Shipping costs are typically $90CAD and include insurance and taxes and tracking. We use UPS, and the time is generally 3-5 days. We work with other providers where needed. If you have a preference for a provider or would like a different shipping time frame, reach out to us directly to arrange.

Return Policy

We work hard to ensure perfection with each stool we send out. You will not be disappointed! We use double-walled shipping boxes with plenty of eco packaging to ensure nothing moves around. If there is any damage, photos need to be taken before the box is opened (it would be obvious). With insurance, we will follow up with the provider to ensure your seat is covered and you have a beautiful seat in your hands as time allows.

If, however, you simply don't like the seat or change your mind, it can be returned at your expense within 10 days unused. We will then determine its quality and readiness for resale. If it's clear there was use, or was damaged in shipping on the return, we will assess the situation with forward steps. There are no immediate refunds, and we will consider the situation as unique.

We've never had a return, only love and gratitude when seat arrives!
