I first heard about steaming in 2014 when I was studying traditional Filipino herbal medicine. It is a postpartum tradition that combines steaming and abdominal massage.
After my child was born I did not think to do any steaming. In 2019 I began steaming to try to decrease my emotional PMS symptoms and painful periods. The first steam I did was at home kneeling over a pot of herbs I had on hand. My next cycle was significantly less painful and I felt more grounded and relaxed. I continued to steam and have been steaming consistently and am experiencing positive benefits. I love being able to support my family, friends, and community in their steaming journey.
