Scientific research requires funding, interest, and resources. Just because a practice has not been studied extensively does not mean that the practice itself has no value. What ends up being studied, for example, by the National Institute of Health (NIH) — the largest research funder in the world, is determined by a committee. The committee seats filled by majority men who are over the age of 60 and the committee only allocates one percent of NIH funds to women’s health. The topics most studied by science are the topics that those with the most funds and power have decided are important and, unfortunately, women’s health is not high on the list.
