Kelsey McEuen is a mother, women’s circle leader at The Wild Woman Project, Birth Doula, Yoni Steam Facilitator and distributor of yoni eggs and crystal pleasure wands in Southern Oregon. She is passionate about holding space for women’s Rites of Passage and supporting womb and yoni wellness. We interviewed Kelsey to learn more.
What is your profession?
I am a Birth Doula at Wild Moon Doula. I also offer services like yoni steaming, yoni eggs, and crystal pleasure wands.
Where did you go to school or get your professional training?
I trained to become a doula with DONA in 2018 and I was certified as a Vaginal Steam Facilitator by the Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute in March of 2019.
How long have you been practicing?
I’ve been steaming myself since 2017 and I’ve been offering yoni steaming since March of 2019.
How did you learn about vaginal steaming?
Originally I learned about vaginal steaming or bajos while traveling in Central America. After returning home and researching I found Kelli Garza of Steamy Chick and decided to take her certification course.
Do you use vaginal steaming yourself?
Yes! I steam multiple times during my cycle.
What has your personal experience with steaming been?
I’ve never experienced “easy” periods. After just a few steaming sessions I had the lightest, most cramp free menstruation of my life. I have also suffered with chronic yeast and bacterial infections throughout my life. Since completing a 10 day cleanse and maintaining a regular steaming practice I have not suffered from any discomfort from infection.
Why did you decide to offer this service to women?
I was empowered by the experience of taking my vaginal health into my own hands and home. I want other women to feel the same way and to connect more with their bodies. I was put on birth control at 11 years old due to heavy and painful periods. I want to share a natural way to balance and support women throughout their experience of life. As a birth doula I wanted to offer gentle postpartum healing practices to new mothers. To reconnect them to their miraculous bodies, keep their energy warm and nurturing.
How long have you been offering vaginal steam services?
I have been offering vaginal steam services since March of 2019.
Where do you offer your services?
I offer mobile steaming in clients homes & gardens (or mine) which I feel really sets the intimate experience of healing nourishment. I have also offered vaginal steaming at women’s retreats.
What benefits do vaginal steam services have for your clients?
Aside from more comfortable menstruation, clients have reported returning balance of their cycles after years of birth control. Deeply connecting them to their femininity and sensuality. Increased libido and natural lubrication. Fewer hot flashes through menopause. Deeper sleep, less anxiety and less constipation. Most of all deep emotional release and a feeling of connecting to their yoni and womb.
How do clients respond when you offer them vaginal steam services? Any funny stories?
I offer steaming as a sacred experience, starting with drumming over the womb space/sacral and root chakras, setting intentions into custom blended herbs, optional guidance cards and crystal support paired with a guided heart and womb mediation often allows clients to experience a deep emotional release they might have not expected. I encourage women to offer the herbal steam back to Mother Earth after each steam session in gratitude for the plant medicine.
The funniest story I have isn’t from a client but from my brother. Upon learning what I meant by Yoni Steaming he said “do you keep your mouth open as a chimney!”
Any favorite quotes from clients either during or after steaming?
“I didn’t expect to cry out my vaginas entire life story.”
