Geneva is a mother of three, wife, birth worker, herbalist and the founder of Her Village — an organization in which she offers holistic support to women through birth and beyond. Based out of Ontario, Canada Geneva has recently started offering vaginal steam services to her clients. We interview Geneva to learn how and why she came to offer this unique service.
What is your profession?
I am a certified Birth and postpartum Doula, with a huge fascination of herbal medicine for women’s health. I am also a certified vaginal steam facilitator, and continuing studies to become a Peristeam hydrotherapist.
Where did you do to school or get your professional training?
I completed my birth work certification through Ubuntu Wellness Academy and went on to complete my vaginal steam certification through the Peristeam Hydrotherpy Institute by Steamy Chick.
How long have you been practicing?
I have been practicing as a birth work for about seven years, and through my journey found that many women required restorative therapies for reproduction as well as postpartum healing and felt I needed to bridge the gap. Vaginal steaming has been that bridge.
How did you learn about vaginal steaming?
I learned of the practice in about 2015 when I was pregnant with my first born. I then went on to train with a couple of institutes and then finally the Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute.
Do you use vaginal steaming yourself?
Yes. Once I got the in depth knowledge of the scope of this practice I used it during my postpartum stage to assist with recovery. I also managed to regulate my cycle using vaginal steam and implement it now as part of my after-period care.
What has your personal experience with steaming been?
My true confirmation that this practice was indeed a necessity was seeing how well I was able to heal after my third child in comparison to my first two. It’s also been amazing to observe how my close family and friends were also able to benefit from vaginal steaming.
Why did you decide to offer this service to women?
I initially started with the goal to educate and work with women who had issues conceiving. Through birth work I found unexplained infertility was a common issue with my clients and many had to resort to expensive and invasive procedures in order to conceive.
The biggest aha moment for me was when one of my clients decided to skip the meds and work with me to achieve a healthy cycle. Once she did that she was able to conceive with no issues (!!!) That was such a huge success. I will carry that experience with me forever. Steamy baby!
Where do you offer your services?
I am based out of Hamilton in Ontario, Canada though I do offer my services remotely through guided one on one support.
What benefits do vaginal steam services have for your clients?
I have worked with many women ranging from issues with absent cycles, irregular cycles, prolonged cycles, PCOS, infertility, postpartum, infections and endometriosis.
How do clients respond when you offer them vaginal steam services?
Many are usually open especially if I provide a success story that relates to their concern. One prospective client thought I was going to use the steamer you use on clothes on her vagina!
Any favorite quotes from clients either during or after steaming?
“Life changing”
“I don’t want to get up”
“I feel tighter down there”
“Coming back to keep the coochie gucci”
