Ananda De Martini is an Ayurvedic women’s health counselor and pelvic steam facilitator located in Los Angeles, California. Ananda began offering steaming services after years of steaming personally. She found that steaming helped heal some of her own sexual wounds and was able to find a consistent menstrual cycle after years of oral contraception. We interviewed Ananda to learn more.
What is your profession?
I am an Ayurvedic women’s health counselor and pelvic steam facilitator. I counsel and support women on life and style management, menstrual attunement and self-care.
Where did you go to school or get your professional training?
I studied with Kerala Ayurveda Academy and Keli Garza of Steamy Chick! Kris Gonzalez is an acupuncturist and herbalist who I’ve learned vaginal ecology and cycle attunement from.
How long have you been practicing?
I started offering Ayurveda in 2017 and added steaming to my professional offering in 2018.
How did you learn about vaginal steaming?
I learned about vaginal steaming through Marcia Lopez who then connected me with Keli Garza at Steamy Chick about 5 years ago. It came at a time when I was doing some deep work around sexual healing.
Do you use vaginal steaming yourself?
Yes. I love steaming! I usually steam once a week according to the phases of the moon and right before my period and after.
What has your personal experience with steaming been?
I came to steaming to heal some deep sexual wounds. I found great comfort in the practice as my awareness became more attuned to this part of my body. I would later go off oral contraception after 13 years of use and found steaming extremely beneficial when my hormones were regulating and finding their way. Steaming helped to bring rhythm, harmony and eventually a consistent menstrual flow/cycle.
Why did you decide to offer this service to women? Was there an “aha” moment?
Peristeaming just seemed like the right next step. I had come to adore this self-care ritual and not many women in my community were aware of it or maybe had heard of it but didn’t understand it. I signed up pretty immediately after Keli first started offering her courses. It felt perfectly aligned!
How long have you been offering vaginal steam services?
I integrated steaming into my services about 6 months ago. I’m currently still learning with Keli about postpartum care and looking forward to deepening my knowledge.
Where do you offer your services?
I am based in West Hollywood in Los Angeles.
What benefits do vaginal steam services have for your clients?
Most women experience more regular cycles. As well, relieving premenstrual symptoms is a huge benefit!
How do clients respond when you offer them vaginal steam services? Any funny stories?
It’s natural to have curiosity and hesitation when introduced to this practice and way of ritual. Each woman needs and wants something different. They often report feeling more relaxed, higher libido and increased connection – once they get over the initial, “say what?!”
Any favorite quotes from clients either during or after steaming?
“I feel like this is my throne”
“I feel more connected to myself than I ever have”
“This felt so good. I never get to just sit”
I get the third one quite a bit!
Do any vaginal steam success stories stand out where the client had a significant health breakthrough?
There are a lot of emotional breakthroughs and healings, as well as restoring balance to their physical bodies in the form of ease of premenstrual symptoms and diminished cramping. The huge success story for me is that through this practice women are reconnecting to this vital life force center and becoming more aware of their power!
