Nicole “Dancing Moon” La Cour-Wordlaw is a doula who began offering steaming services to her clients after finding relief and a significant change in her period. With an array of training centered around women’s health and wellness, Nicole looked to steaming to help center women and find regularity in their periods. We interviewed Nicole to learn more.
What is your profession?
I’m a trained life coach, birth doula, holistic life & sexual wellness coach and pre and post natal dance instructor. I am multi-passionate for sure! 🙂
Where did you go to school or get your professional training?
I originally received my BFA in Dance from UCLA in 1998. After having my own children, I was certified by The Sanctuary Birth + Family Wellness Center in 2011 as a doula. As a life coach, I was trained by Celia Ward-Wallace and Certified Coaches Federation in 2015. As a sexual wellness practitioner, I was trained by Lara Catone/Artemis School also in 2015. As a Peristeam Hydrotherapist I was trained by Keli Garza in 2017.
How long have you been practicing?
I’ve been a dance instructor with various populations ranging from toddlers to adults for over twenty years. Specifically with the pre and post natal population for the past five years. As a birth doula, I’ve been practicing for the past seven years. As a life coach for the past four years. As a sexual wellness practitioner for the past three years. And as a Peristeam Hydrotherapist for the past two years.
How did you learn about vaginal steaming?
I had actually found Keli online years ago and was certainly very curious but never did try steaming. I went through the categories she had at the time and found myself to be a ‘downtown’ chick. That was it. I got myself a label, lol! I officially learned more about steaming during my sexual wellness training back in 2015. Marcia Lopez was a guest instructor and shared about it along with womb massage. It was from there that I became connected with Keli. The moment I heard there was a training available I JUMPED on it! I love geeking out on it!!!
Do you use vaginal steaming yourself?
YES! I continue to use steaming as a personal practice to connect with my womb, keep my cycle at 27/28 days and I’ve recently introduced it to my pre-menarche 11 year old daughter who has found that she loves it!
What has your personal experience with steaming been?
I’ve been able to elongate my menstrual cycles from 24/25 days to 28 days. I’ve also been able to monitor more closely and resolve any abnormalities like clotting and dark colored blood. It’s helped me to learn so much about my body and how my body responds to my lifestyle choices. I’ve become much more conscious of my connection to my womb and my body.
Why did you decide to offer this service to women? Was there an “aha” moment?
I immediately knew this was a great service for women. Having already been a practitioner, this was so exciting to me to be able to share this very old, worldwide and natural practice. My overall “aha” moment with serving women came just after having my second child in 2010. Looking back at my experiences during pregnancy, birth and postpartum there was so much I felt I had never learned, so to be able to share this wisdom with others felt like a natural addition.
How long have you been offering vaginal steam services?
I have been offering vaginal steam services since 2017.
Where do you offer your services?
At Lotus Integrative Medicine in Santa Monica, California.
What benefits do vaginal steam services have for your clients?
That ranges from overall wellness and maintenance, to spiritual womb connection, eliminating PMS, postpartum support, reducing pain and size of cysts + fibroids, alleviating headaches, cramping, low back pain, relaxation, increasing libido and soothing dryness. There’s also the sense of empowerment that women feel after having steamed. They feel very much in control of their bodies and begin to make that mind/body connection. They walk out taller and more confident than when they came in.
How do clients respond when you offer them vaginal steam services? Any funny stories?
Usually clients leave feeling very relaxed, as if they’d just come from the spa. Others have shared a “weird” and “tingly” feeling, especially when doing it for the first time. Others report being horny and wanting to go home to their partners. Some are overwhelmed by how diligent they have to be to support their issues. Some think they’re going to burn themselves, that’s when I laugh. I just remind them that’s not what we’re going for. I encourage them to test the temperature of the steam with their hand first, then slowly sit and if it’s ever too hot to get up! Sometimes they forget they can listen to their own body and GET UP!
Any favorite quotes from clients either during or after steaming?
“Ah, that felt so good!”
“I don’t know why it took me this long to try it.”
“God is good!”
“I feel so supported and blessed!”
Do any vaginal steam success stories stand out where the client had a significant health breakthrough?
I worked with a woman who had a cluster of fibroids. After about 3-4 months of working together in conjunction with acupuncture and herbs, her biopsy was CANCELLED! She was absolutely ELATED! She knew from the beginning that she wanted to utilize holistic methods FIRST before jumping to surgery. With her commitment and spiritual practices she felt so grateful and much more confident in her body and it’s healing! This example is truly why I love steaming!!!
